Hereafter's tsunami sequences get it pulled from Japanese theaters
With any tragic event there will be unintended consequences in the entertainment world, throwing your apocalyptic fantasies or hilarious observations about bitches and their shoes into a new, uncomfortable context. Oddly enough, Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter already had one uncomfortable connection to tragic history with its scenes set during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and now it’s that very same sequence which has just caused it to be pulled from Japanese theaters. According to a statement from the film’s distributors, Hereafter was deemed “not appropriate at this time” for Japanese audiences, which, yep. (And really, even without those scenes, things are already dour and portentous enough over there.)
