Here's what's coming to Amazon Prime in July
We’re moving into the hottest, nastiest parts of the summer soon, and with them, a rising urge in our desires to hide in our dark rooms and just let the TV do all the tricky thinking. Luckily, Amazon released its upcoming updates to its library of streaming content on its Prime subscription service today, allowing us a slightly better window into what we’ll be doing while we hide from the sun during the sticky, muggy months.
We’ll be honest, though: Things are looking a little slim over in BezosLand this July. Sure, we’ve got the sixth season of The Americans arriving, allowing delayed viewers to catch up on the FX series’ big finale, but that’s not until July 29. Or the first two seasons of the original 21 Jump Street, for some reason, in case you’ve been desperate for a young Johnny Depp fix. In terms of Prime Originals, though, Amazon’s only got three offerings this month, which, fascinating or not, feels a little light. First up: The first season of Comicstaan, a competition series that will see some of India’s finest comics battle it out for the audience’s love. Amazon is also adding every season of NYPD Blue, The Closer, and Burn Notice to its roster, so we’re in good shape for content by volume, at least.
Over in films, meanwhile, there’s a little more variety: Who wants to set up a double feature of Breakfast At Tiffany’s and The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The Eighth Dimension? Or dip into Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson’s earlier filmography with The Brothers Bloom? Or creep themselves out with Killer Klowns From Outer Space, or Woody Allen: A Documentary Parts 1 & 2?
Our point is, we’re all going to get through this. Unless the air conditioning gives out, in which case we’re probably screwed.
