September is the precursor to the spookiest month of the year, making it relatively spooky simply because of close it is to October, and it can be hard to ignore the underlying sense of dread that permeates the month. Pumpkins are growing larger and more frightening, the candy corn trees are beginning to blossom, and all of the skeletons in the graveyards are practicing their xylophones in anticipation of their Halloween dance parties. Hulu isn’t actively embracing this nascent spookiness with its September streaming offerings, but since we couldn’t think of anything interesting to say about September, we’re just going to pretend that it is.
Next month, Hulu subscribers will be able to watch new episodes of Sarah Silverman’s I Love You, America, a show that dares to address the spooky topic of politics in a fun and funny way. Subscribers will also be getting the premiere of The First, the Sean Penn-led drama about a team of astronauts preparing for a trip to Mars. That may not sound scary, but movies have taught us that Mars is full of ghosts, killer robots, and squawking aliens with big heads. Those are both Hulu originals, but subscribers are also getting legitimately spooky fare like the 1979 Amityville Horror, the remake of The Fly, a couple Pumpkinhead movies, some M. Night Shyamalan movies, and baseball-themed ghost story Field Of Dreams.
Sadly, the end of September will also be your last chance to catch legitimate horror masterpiece Maximum Overdrive (an ATM calls Stephen King an asshole!) and baseball-themed ghost story Field Of Dreams. Apparently, it’ll only be on Hulu for 30 days.
