It’s Rumor Time: Disney might be working on an entire Han Solo trilogy

Thanks to what can only be described as a miracle of modern science, Disney may have found a way to triple the amount of Han Solo in our lives. That’s according to a hot new rumor, at least, which says that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning to change their one Han Solo Star Wars spin-off into three Han Solo spin-offs. Hail, Caesar! breakout Alden Ehrenreich will be starring in the first of those movies, which will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and this rumor claims that he has also secretly agreed to star in two sequels as well. There’s no word on if Lord and Miller will also return, though.

As far as we can tell, this rumor originated from the New York Daily News, because it ran a story about this rumor with a big “EXCLUSIVE” in the headline. It apparently got the information from “insiders” who say that Ehrenreich has “quietly signed…a three-picture deal” that will “[pave] the way” for more Han Solo movies if the first one is a hit.

So, is any of this true? Well, for starters, actors get signed to three-picture deals like that all the time, so it is absolutely not proof that Disney is making a Han Solo trilogy. If anything, it just means Disney could make a bunch of Han Solo movies. On top of that, the idea of Disney waiting to see what the response to the Han Solo movie is like before greenlighting sequels seems silly after it put six new Star Wars movies into development before the first one had even come out. If Disney does want to make more Han Solo movies, it’s not going to wait and see if we want one, it’s going to put a billion dollars into marketing and make us want one. Basically, the story here—if the three-picture deal thing is true—is that Disney might make more Han Solo movies, and there’s nothing we can do about it.
