It's 3 p.m. (and Batman Day), so let's watch George Clooney profusely apologize for killing the Dark Knight

It’s 3 p.m.! Let The A.V. Club briefly make use of a few precious minutes of your rapidly depleting leisure time with some pop culture ephemera pulled from the depths of YouTube.

Happy Batman Day, folks, the corporate-mandated holiday in which we spend even more time than we usually do contemplating the ordeals of extremely rich orphans with extremely specific crime-fighting fetishes. Admittedly, Bruce Wayne could probably use a little extra cheering up this year, what with the shambles currently surrounding his theatrical presence: DC and Warner Bros. have gone very quiet about the current fate of its Batman film properties, as Ben Affleck has made it increasingly clear he couldn’t give two shits about portraying the Dark Knight again.

And yet, this still isn’t the darkest night for filmic takes on Gotham’s favorite son, an “honor” that still falls on Batman & Robin star George Clooney. There are arguments to be made that Joel Schumacher’s garish 1997 effort isn’t the worst thing to ever happen to Batman, but you won’t hear them from Clooney himself:

Hence this 2015 clip from The Graham Norton Show, in which a discussion of con culture transitions into a widespread mea culpa for killing off one of the world’s most lucrative comic book franchises, for years. Being George Clooney and all, the former Bats doesn’t seem too broken up about the whole ordeal, but he does seem sincere enough. Still, lighten up, George.
