After Jonathan Demme was pressured to drop his film adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63—having run afoul of the nefarious military-industrial-Lindy hop complex—J.J. Abrams has stepped up to adapt the novel about a teacher who travels back in time to stop the Kennedy assassination, as well as dance. Abrams is already plenty busy with the Star Trek and Star Wars universes, of course, in addition to the myriad TV shows he has in development at any one time, yet apparently he just couldn’t resist another story involving wormholes, time-travel, lovers separated by great obstacles, and complex conspiracy theories that don’t really pan out to anything. Like CBS’ upcoming Under The Dome, Abrams is said to be looking at the book as a possible miniseries or TV series. Like the book’s protagonist, that would allow Abrams plenty of time to just meander through the years, maybe even devoting entire episodes to the tastiness of old-fashioned root beer.
