James Franco may expand into ruling magical realms for Oz prequel
When last we checked in on Sam Raimi’s Oz The Great And Powerful, the Wizard Of Oz prequel had lost Robert Downey Jr. and moved down the eccentricity axis to Johnny Depp, whose formula of fright wigs and funny accents would allow audiences to simply picture the film in their heads, thereby negating Disney the cost of making it. Unfortunately, Depp has now passed, leaving only one name expansive enough to fill the vacuum: James Franco, whom Heat Vision reports is currently in discussion with his former Spider-Man director about taking over the role. Should he accept, it would be an oddly serendipitous bit of casting, considering “James Franco” is just a clever illusion perpetrated by “a man behind a curtain”—i.e. the dreaming of our collective subconscious—and of course, Franco has long been working on a dissertation on why “James Franco” is really an allegory about the Industrial Revolution.
