James Gunn on Milly Alcock firing rumors: "Oh brother"

The director debunked another round of baseless rumors concerning DC Studios on Friday.

James Gunn on Milly Alcock firing rumors:

A frustrating aspect of covering superhero movies is sifting through the endless deluge of made-up bullshit from within the fandom that frequently spews across social media like a burst septic pipe. Man Of Tomorrow director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has a simple philosophy for dealing with messes such as this: If a piece of news doesn’t come directly from someone inside the studio, it’s probably, almost definitely, not true. On a slow news day like today, it’s worth reflecting on this sage advice, as Gunn has again put it into practice by debunking a new suite of “rumors” that downplay or otherwise attempt to undermine solidarity within DC Studios.

Gunn took to Threads on Friday to squash the latest round of bullshit, with the first easily debunked even without his help: Matt Reeves is “no longer directing: The Batman: Part II” (untrue, though Steven Soderbergh has joined the production to help wrap shooting). A second claim held that Supergirl star Milly Alcock “has been fired from her role” (no available reporting supports this—and besides, she’s co-starring in Man Of Tomorrow). And to top off the bullshit sundae, one rumor is flying around claiming a test screening for Man Of Tomorrow “got poor reviews” due to a “dark” ending that involved the death of “a beloved DC hero.” Gunn responded with a swift takedown of each assertion, posting:

Oh brother. You guys just have to stop listening to BS, and I’m mostly done shooting down rumors as there are so many and I’m not on here much. But all three of these couldn’t be more false. I’m showing PETER SAFRAN my first Director’s Cut today – he’s the first person to see it, obviously – and that’s a month early!

So it seems the DC fandom rumor mill’s utter bullshittery has once again been mopped up by the one person whose word on such matters is tough to dispute. Also, it seems Peter Safran still gets to enjoy his executive privileges, including his exclusive first look at the Superman sequel, despite letting slip to IGN earlier this week that Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis would voice Scott Free and Big Barda in the upcoming Mister Miracle animated series from Tom King. “I’m not sure it gets more official than that,” Gunn posted. “Loose Lips Safran strikes again!”
