At least CBS won back the rights to Jeopardy! and Wheel Of Fortune

A judge ruled this week that CBS regains sole distribution rights for the shows after they had previously been granted to Sony.

There has been precious little good news in the CBS sphere as of late. Just this week, Paramount, parent company to the network, tried to settle with President Trump so its merger with Skydance could go through. It didn’t work, and it may in fact have been a bribe, according to members of the U.S. senate. Whoops! At least CBS just got Jeopardy! back.

CBS and Sony have been in a months-long dispute over Jeopardy! and Wheel Of Fortune, going back to a lawsuit Sony filed in fall 2024 over overseas distribution rights. By February, Sony tried to come for the whole thing. Last month, it temporarily won, with a Los Angeles judge ruling that Sony “need not deliver episodes to CBS.” But yesterday, a different panel of three judges actually said that the exact opposite was true.

The decision that Sony can stop delivering the episodes to CBS “is hereby stayed,” according to a statement from the judges obtained by The Wrap. What this means is that CBS once again has distribution rights for Jeopardy! and Wheel Of Fortune. It doesn’t mean that the companies are necessarily done suing each other, but CBS will have control of the shows “for the rest of the court battle,” in the words of The Wrap, though it’s not immediately clear how long that will be. Hopefully for its sake, the wheel of fortune can smile on some of CBS’ other problems in the meantime.
