Hey, remember when Jon Stewart said we shouldn’t apply the term “fascism” to President Donald Trump and his administration so much? Unrelatedly, Trump continues to threaten American television networks over unfavorable coverage. After hitting CBS with a whopping $20 billion lawsuit over 60 Minutes‘ pre-election Kamala Harris interview, Trump is now calling for the FCC to hit the network with “substantial” punishment.
On Sunday, Trump posted on his Truth Social page, “Almost every week, 60 Minutes … mentions the name ‘TRUMP’ in a derogatory and defamatory way, but this Weekend’s ‘BROADCAST’ tops them all.” He continued (via The Hill), “They did not one, but TWO, major stories on ‘TRUMP,’ one having to do with Ukraine, which I say is a War that would never have happened if the 2020 Election had not been RIGGED, in other words, if I were President and, the other story was having to do with Greenland, casting our Country, as led by me, falsely, inaccurately, and fraudulently.”
In one segment on the long-running and venerated news program, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed Trump to come see the destruction in the Ukraine, and observed that “Russian narratives are prevailing in the U.S.” In the Greenland segment, political leaders and business owners criticized Trump’s frequent calls to colonize their country. Unfortunately, our most TV-addicted president in history also doesn’t respond well to backlash of any kind—and he took it out on CBS, again.
“They should lose their license!” He raged in his Truth Social rant. “Hopefully, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), as headed by its Highly Respected Chairman, Brendan Carr, will impose the maximum fines and punishment, which is substantial, for their unlawful and illegal behavior. CBS is out of control, at levels never seen before, and they should pay a big price for this. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Wonder what Jon Stewart would call this kind of behavior?
