The Only Living Pickpocket In New York hearkens back to a bit of old New York at the movies. Not the shiny rooftop bars and $30 cocktails in influencers’ Instagram reels, the kinds of movies that followed down-and-out characters who were struggling to survive, making do with a century-old apartment in a city where, if you’re not careful, your pocketbook may walk off without you. Keep the gloom and the grime, hold-off on the warm, fuzzy feelings. 

In The Only Living Pickpocket In New York, John Turturro plays Harry, an experienced crook with a code of honor and a long rap sheet. One night by chance, he pilfers something he doesn’t understand from a hotshot brat from a crime family. Suddenly, Harry is on the run from more than the cops in order to save his wife, his friends, and if he’s lucky, himself. 

Written and directed by Noah Segan, The Only Living Pickpocket In New York gives Turturro a sensitive and complicated role, one that allows him to wax rhapsodic about the old days while navigating the treacherous new world of cryptocurrency. Turturro is joined by a cast that includes Giancarlo Esposito, Steve Buscemi, and Tatiana Maslany. The Only Living Pickpocket In New York opens in New York City and Los Angeles on October 23, 2026.
