Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt making another movie together, this time with James Franco

Encouraged by the way no one in the audience audibly cracked up when Christopher Plummer included him in his list of esteemed colleagues, Jonah Hill has begun pursuing both another somewhat-dramatic role in a fact-based film and another collaboration with Brad Pitt, which are two things that worked out pretty well for him last time. Pitt will produce the Rupert Goold-directed True Story with Hill starring as Michael Finkel, the New York Times Magazine writer whose strange real-life experiences—as related in his 2008 memoir of the same name—form the basis of the film.

The plot, which sounds unreal and convoluted, and yet actually happened: Finkel learns that one of the FBI’s recently captured Ten Most Wanted, a killer named Christian Longo, has been living under the stolen identity of none other than New York Times reporter Michael Finkel. The very next day, in a thematically appropriate confluence of events, Finkel is fired for fabricating the identity of a subject in one of his investigative pieces. Out of curiosity and quest for journalistic redemption, he then travels to Mexico to interview Longo, beginning a complex relationship that becomes yet another thematically appropriate illustration of the slippery nature of truth and the dangers of narcissism. Naturally, the part of Longo will be played by James Franco, who is himself a thematically appropriate illustration of the slippery nature of truth and the dangers of narcissism. The film is currently seeking financing, as well as at least two more layers of meta-textual coincidence—like maybe Franco will also kill someone.
