Judd Apatow is producing Jemaine Clement’s new HBO series

A year later, Clement’s now willing to go a little further in regards to the new show, as per an interview published in The Sydney Morning Herald earlier today. The anthology series, which the New Zealand-born comedian describes as, “The Twilight Zone, but comedy,” still doesn’t have a title, but it does have a pretty big new name attached to it: comedy mastermind Judd Apatow, who’ll be adding the show to the slate of executive producing duties he already performs for the network on Girls. Clement was quick to heap praise on Apatow, who he’s working with for the first time on the project: “Usually we know what’s wrong with the script but we hand it in anyway and then he’ll tell us… if you ever heard anyone talking about working with him, he actually pushes the comedy further. Makes your ideas good. It’s good exercise.”

Clement also went into more detail on the structure of the series, saying that the four episodes of the show will each function like mini-movies, all grouped loosely around “time” as a theme. He mentioned two scripts that were already written, with one centering on a dance competition, and another explicitly about traveling through time.
