If it was the latter, it wouldn’t be the first time. In 2022, West was suspended after a different antisemitic rant, in which he infamously tweeted that he would go “death con 3 on Jewish people.” Elon Musk reinstated the rapper’s account in 2023, but may have had some regrets about that last night. “Given what he has posted, his account is now classified as NSFW. You should not be seeing that anymore,” the X owner wrote in response to a user pointing out that West has posted “literal porn on the timeline.” Regardless, West thanked Musk in one of his last tweets before deactivation, writing (per Deadline), “I’m logging out of Twitter. I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent. It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board.”
Unsurprisingly, the world had a lot of feelings about that. “Here we go again. Another egregious display of antisemitism, racism and misogyny from Ye on his X account this morning,” Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt wrote in a statement, per Variety. “Just a few years ago, ADL found that 30 antisemitic incidents nationwide were tied to Kanye’s 2022 antisemitic rants. We condemn this dangerous behavior and need to call it what it is: a flagrant and unequivocal display of hate.” Jewish actor David Schwimmer also urged Musk to ban West over the weekend, writing on Instagram, “We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk… Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people than the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews.”
