Two of Hollywood’s premier sisters—Kate and Rooney Mara—are finally starring in a movie together. That must be a relief for their parents and their social calendar. All those separate premieres must get pretty tiring!

Werner Herzog is both writing and directing the film, titled Bucking Fastard. (No, you didn’t just spontaneously develop dyslexia; that’s the real name.) According to Deadline‘s original reporting, the film will be based on the “true story of inseparable twin sisters Joan and Jean, who live on the fringes of society.” Empire dug a little deeper. Herzog’s memoir, Every Man For Himself And God Against All, contains a section titled “Unrealised Projects” in which the Nosferatu The Vampyre director specifically states that he hopes to make a film about real-life British identical twins Greta and Freda Chaplin, who spoke simultaneously and at one point were arrested over their shared infatuation with a truck driver neighbor. Apparently, both sisters slipped up and said the film’s title, Bucking Fastard, in court. Herzog supposedly met the two women (who died in 2007 and 2020) a handful of times, so he should have a good bank of material.

Mara and Mara have also likely built up a good deal of shared quirks and sisterly chemistry that’s never before made it to screen. Kate recently starred in Black Mirror and has done voice work for Invincible, while Rooney appeared in Women Talking and culinary drama La Cocina. Bucking Fastard is reportedly set to start filming in Ireland and Slovenia this spring, so we’ll see how these two play off each other soon.
