His story: The victim of a degenerative disease as a child, Kevin Thompson’s parents ran painful and traumatic experiments on him for years before discovering a cure. However, it also granted him the power of suggestion, controlling others’ minds via verbal commands for a short time. His parents, fearful of their lives, abandoned him, and Thompson changed his name to Kilgrave, traveling the world and amassing a fortune thanks to his abilities. After witnessing Jessica Jones use her superpower, he takes her mental prisoner for months, until her struggle to break free caused him to lose focus and be hit by a bus. After an extended period of recovery, he began stalking her, attempting to win her back, and harming those around her. He even buys her a house—the very one she spent her early childhood in—and promises not to use his power on her. She briefly captures Kilgrave, but he escapes, and finally Jessica tracks him to the NYC docks and kills him. We don’t endorse murder, but no one’s going to weep much.
