According to EW, Sutter hinted at a possible SOA prequel while at Comic-Con last month, which is something he seems to enjoy doing at every Comic-Con. When he brought up the prequel back in 2012, he suggested it would be a “more political and socially historical kind of show.” But that’s an itch he’s likely scratched with The Bastard Executioner, which certainly looks like it’s steeped in history. Sutter is seeking a showrunner for the new project, as he’ll only executive produce (and probably guest star).
FX hasn’t confirmed whether the spin-off will be a prequel or sequel, but it will follow the dealings of the Mayans, the motorcycle club run led by Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera). During the original show’s run, these “Assassins Of God” stole from and fought with SAMCRO, but ultimately entered into an alliance with the Sons, thanks in part to Nero Padilla (Jimmy Smits). We’re not sure how Nero would factor in to a Mayans-centered prequel—he would either be in Chino or a member of the Byz Lats—so we’re hoping for a sequel that includes scenes with him on his new farm, wearing a cardigan with his overalls.
