Damn fine list of movies: Kyle MacLachlan shares Dale Cooper’s favorite films
The Fallout star has shared his characters’ favorite movies on Letterboxd
Every day, once a day, Kyle MacLachlan gives his adoring public a present. Whether he’s spoofing Lorde’s Instagram or simply trying to understand what “babygirl” means, McLachlan has ingratiated himself into the hearts of netizens. Today, filling the internet void which is as black as midnight on a moonless night, MacLachlan began sharing lists on Letterboxd (h/t Letterboxd editor Mia Lee Vicinio) revealing the favorite films of some of his most beloved characters, including Dale Cooper, Trey MacDougal, Desperate Housewives’ Orson Hodge, and How I Met Your Mother’s The Captain.
So what’s on Dale Cooper’s movie Mount Rushmore? Well, some aren’t so surprising. Otto Preminger’s classics Anatomy Of A Murder and Laura make sense for the Blue Rose task force member, while Ingmar Bergman’s Persona and Hal Ashby’s Being There play into the personality crisis of Twin Peak’s third season. But perhaps more disturbingly, Cooper’s favorites also include a movie in which he appears (Fire Walk With Me) and one starring MacLachlan (Blue Velvet). Does MacLachlan also exist in the Twin Peaks universe? Does Fire Walk With Me? Notably, MacLachlan does not include either Sex And The City movie that appears on Trey MacDougal’s list. However, his inclusion of The Package, Blockers, and Braveheart are [kisses fingers] c’est magnifique.
Additionally, he offers the favorites of Orson Hodges from Desperate Housewives, who is, unsurprisingly, a fan of Steve Martin’s dentist movies, Novocaine and Little Shop Of Horrors. But also hints at some late-night TCM viewing, selecting David Lean’s Brief Encounter and Stephen Roberts’ One Sunday Afternoon. As for The Captain’s picks, well, this guy just likes movies that feature sea captains, if you can believe it. Still, can we argue with Das Boot, Captain Phillips, Jaws, and Battleship Potemkin? Bangers only for the Captain.
