Sony's Legend Of Zelda movie secures official release date

It’s dangerous to go into The Legend Of Zelda movie speculation alone; take this official premiere date as a proven sign of life. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Sony’s long-gestating live-action adventure will officially bow March 26, 2027. That’s a ways away, but it sounds like Nintendo and fellow producer Arad Productions, Inc. (helmed by Spider-Man and Venom producer Avi Arad) are really taking their time to get it right. The project was first announced back in 2023, with Nintendo representative director Shigeru Miyamoto posting at the time that he had been working on the film for “many years now.” In the same thread, he added that the team has “now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

Wes Ball, whose previous credits include the Maze Runner trilogy and last year’s Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, is attached to direct. The film has not announced any plot details or casting info as of this writing, but fans have been running a pretty active campaign to get Hunter Schafer in contention for the titular princess. The fan-casting has gained so much momentum that Schafer actually responded to the prospect herself, telling Entertainment Tonight that it would be “so cool” to play the character. “It’s another wave of the fan casts and everything, which is really sweet,” she continued. “I’m honored that they even think of me for that.”
