Linda Cardellini was Dead To Me for Netflix, and now she’ll be a killer for Peacock. The Freaks And Geeks actor officially became the first cast member to enroll at Camp Crystal Lake for A24’s Friday The 13th prequel series, per The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll play Pamela Voorhees, the mother of masked man Jason Voorhees, and (spoiler warning for a nearly-half-century-old film) original Friday The 13th murderer.
Specific Crystal Lake plot details have been kept under wraps, so it’s not clear as of this writing exactly how big Cardellini’s role will be. That’s up to Brad Caleb Kane—an executive producer on Max’s competing horror prequel It: Welcome To Derry—who gained the titles of creator, writer, and showrunner after A24 parted ways with original writer Bryan Fuller in 2024. (As THR points out, Kane’s “creator” designation implies that none of Fuller’s material will be used.) “From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask,” Kane said in a statement upon joining the series. “Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
Cardellini will be hard-pressed to find time to watch (or rewatch) all 12 Friday The 13th films in between the projects she currently has on the docket. She’s filming for HBO comedy DTF St. Louis and will soon appear in both Way Of The Warrior Kid opposite Chris Pratt and Nonnas with Lorraine Bracco, Susan Sarandon, and Vince Vaughn. Recently, she also appeared in Netflix’s No Good Deed, Hulu’s Nutcrackers, and Marvel’s Hawkeye.
