Linda Gray is headed to The CW to guest star in the upcoming comedy Significant Mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series stars Josh Zuckerman as Nate, a Portland businessman who discovers that his best friend Jimmy (Nathaniel Buzolic) is dating his recently separated mother Lydia, played by Krista Allen. It’s worth noting that in reality, Allen is only 14 years older than Mayes, because it’s not like Hollywood would ever cast a woman who’s actually significantly older than her love interest, even when their age gap is part of the show’s premise! Don’t be silly!
Gray—best known for her role as Sue Ellen Ewing, J.R.’s wife on CBS’s foreverlong primetime soap Dallas—will play the significant mother’s mother, Gammy. Hey, at least the age gap between Allen and Gray makes a little more sense. In episode five, Gammy, described as a conservative Southern mom who’s “as sweet as the devil,” shows up at Lydia’s home unannounced, forcing the crew to try to keep the “scandalous” relationship between Lydia and Jimmy secret.
Significant Mother premieres August 3 at 9:30 p.m. on The CW and also stars Jonathan Silverman, Emma Fitzpatrick, and Jay Ali. Denise Richards is also slated to guest star in the second episode.
