Netflix will bring Lord Of The Flies to the United States this spring

Somewhere, on a remote island in the South Pacific, there’s a group of adolescent boys waiting to be rescued. Netflix has answered the call and announced today it will bring us the new Lord Of The Flies series next month. That is, if the boys don’t all kill each other first.

The new series comes, fittingly, from Adolescence creator Jack Thorne, who became a critical darling for spotlighting how a preteen boy could wind up committing a shocking act of violence. That should certainly have primed him well for Lord Of The Flies. As you may recall from a high school English class or “Das Bus” from The Simpsons, the story follows a group of British schoolboys marooned on a deserted island where their attempt to create a civilization quickly descends into tribalism and violence before they’re rescued by, oh, let’s say, Moe. Though there have been film and stage adaptations of Lord Of The Flies, this adaptation is billed as the first TV version of the work, which is true if you don’t count the things heavily influenced by it, like Yellowjackets

Netflix also shared some new photos from the series, which debuted in the United Kingdom last month. All four one-hour episodes of the series will debut stateside on Netflix on May 4.
