Louis CK books two Netflix stand-up specials

In the past few months, Netflix has ordered multiple comedy specials from Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, and Amy Schumer, suggesting that the streaming service is looking to make “high-profile stand-up specials” a core pillar of its business alongside “superhero shows” and “Adam Sandler movies.” Today, Netflix made that even more clear by ordering two more comedy specials from Louis CK, another one of stand-up’s biggest stars. According to a press release, the first special is titled simply 2017, and it will be available on April 4. The second special doesn’t have a premiere date, but it’s probably at least a year off.

In a statement, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said that CK is “one of the most innovative comedy voices in this new era of stand-up,” adding that he’s “a thought leader in the business of comedy.”
