Luther creator Neil Cross is adapting The Talented Mr. Ripley for TV

Following the critical success of Carol (even if it was penned under a pen name), Patricia Highsmith adaptations are once again de rigueur, as Variety reports that The Talented Mr. Ripley will soon make his way to the small screen. Executive producers Guymon Casady (Game Of Thrones) and Ben Forkner (The Gallows) have tapped Luther creator Neil Cross to adapt the five Tom Ripley novels Highsmith wrote over the course of 30-odd years.

Tom Ripley, the “dapper psychopath” of many talents, was last seen onscreen in 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, which co-starred Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Anthony Minghella’s film was based on the first of the five Ripley books, which are all part of a deal that Endemol Shine, Entertainment 360 and Diogene struck with Highsmith’s estate, leaving numerous manipulations and adventures for Cross to adapt for the series. No one’s attached to star or direct yet, but Endemol hopes to eventually The launch the series in the U.S. and other territories.
