Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy reunite for Batman: The Killing Joke animated film

According to Comic Book Resources, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will play Batman and the Joker in Warner Bros. animated adaptation of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s graphic novel The Killing Joke, reprising the roles they first played back on Batman: The Animated Series (and in a bunch of other Batman cartoons and video games since then). Considering that some people see Hamill and Conroy as the definitive versions of these characters and The Killing Joke as one of the most iconic Batman stories of all time, though, this is a little bit more exciting than the two of them appearing in another Arkham video game together.

The Killing Joke is notable for a lot of reasons, mostly because it features the Joker shooting Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the spine and crippling her (an incident that had a major impact in the proper DC Universe), as well as one of the more palatable origin stories ever offered for the Clown Prince Of Crime. It’ll also be interesting to see how the animated adaptation handles the book’s ending, which—depending on who you ask—is either a simple cut to black or a huge and unexpected twist. This version will probably have to pick a side, which should inspire a whole new round of nerdy debates.

Whatever happens in the end, though, longtime Batman fans will surely be happy to hear these classic incarnations of Batman and the Joker shouting at each other again. The Killing Joke will be available in stores at some point this summer.
