Marvel Studios releases "Silence Your Phones" promo for all the good that'll do

In fact, putting a bunch of superheroes on the big screen—even for a matter of seconds, which is how long the promo lasts—is just another excuse for audiences to yank out their rectangular light sources to shoot photos and videos, as a theater recording of the promo proves in that IGN post. Joining Black Widow in the showy public service announcement are Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman (Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Anthony Mackie), Bucky (Sebastian Stan), Namor (Tenoch Huerta), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Cyclops (James Marsden), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), Gambit (Channing Tatum), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). Who could possibly see a group like that on the big screen and not pull out their phones? WIth cutting-edge digital projection being what it is, why, it’s almost like they’re actually there! 

It’s notable that the promo, as is the case with most useless pre-show promos, only suggests that people “silence” their phones, instead of telling people to “keep your phones in your pocket under threat of exile”—because ringing phones are obviously the root cause of why people chronically take them out during darkened public events. Anyway, we’re giving Marvel’s effort to curb phone use in theaters a “D”—for Doomsday!
