A darker Mary Poppins TV series is in the works

Perhaps the biggest difference between the source material and the previous films is that in the books, the “practically perfect in every way” character is much stricter toward the Banks kids, gaslights them when they accuse her of having magic powers, and is even feared by some. In the film adaptations, Mary Poppins is still firm, but far more nurturing and sympathetic—a change that Travers found too sugary sweet. Since the new TV series will draw on the books, fans can probably expect adventures in other dimensions and the introduction of more characters from the nanny’s magical world. It’s still too early to know what else to expect from the new adaptation, but fans will be eagerly waiting to see which actor is chosen to wield Mary Poppins’ parrot umbrella.
