Paramount+ has shared a whole gaggle of first-look images for the upcoming fifth and final season of Mayor Of Kingstown, the Taylor Sheridan/Hugh Dillon-created crime thriller in which Jeremy Renner famously mean-mugs a host of glowering adversaries, colleagues, and family members. (Including Hugh Dillon!) Can’t say this attitude is unwarranted, given the tense atmosphere of the “company town” where Renner, as resident power broker Mike McLusky, pulls the strings. Last season Mike had to deal with the bitter, irreconcilable enmity between his brother Kyle (Taylor Handley) and Aryan gang leader Merle Callahan (Richard Brake), which—spoilers for Mayor Of Kingstown season four—ended with Mike arranging for Callahan to be pulled from Anchor Bay Correctional Facility so that Kyle could exact his Kingstown justice.
Such vicious lawlessness has attracted unwanted attention from the feds, bringing David Morse (World War Z) into the fictional burg as FBI agent Russell Hardy to investigate Callahan’s disappearance, which I’m sure Mike is very excited to deal with next. Morse is the latest in the series’ long line of prestige-y glowerers, who, as you can see in the images below, can glower with the best of them. We mean, look at this lineup of mugs: Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner! Emmy/Golden Globe winner Edie Falco! Tony winner Laura Benanti! Dillon, Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Necar Zadegan, and Nichole Galicia! And don’t let’s forget The Walking Dead‘s Lennie James, who glowers like few on television can!
The final season logline reads as follows:
In the wake of Tracy’s murder and the vengeance visited upon Callahan by Mike (Renner) and Kyle (Taylor Handley), FBI agent Russell Hardy (David Morse) arrives in Kingstown searching for the “fugitive” Callahan. A true lawman, Agent Hardy threatens to unearth all of Mike’s sins and secrets, and disrupt Kingstown’s tenuous balance of power.
