If you can’t get Mikey Madison, Mia Goth is a pretty good option. Variety reports today that the Pearl star will star opposite Ryan Gosling in the upcoming Star Wars flick Starfighter, from Deadpool & Wolverine helmer Shawn Levy. That trade doesn’t have much information to offer about the role, but The Hollywood Reporter suggests that it is a villainous “pursuer” who is after the young charge that Gosling’s character must protect.

What is confirmed, though, is that Goth is stepping into the role that Madison passed on earlier this spring. THR reports that Madison said no to the part “over money matters.” (We might also speculate that a Star War just wasn’t high on Madison’s priority list after becoming the first Gen Z Oscar winner, but who’s to say?) Either way, Goth is an actor who’s shown herself to be willing to get kind of wacky with it, be it as Pearl or in a movie like Infinity Pool, so it’s not a huge surprise that she’d be game for something like this. She’s also pretty in-demand at the moment, with upcoming roles in Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

Not a ton else is known about Starfighter at the moment. Variety reports that the film will take place about five years after the events of The Rise Of Skywalker. Nothing reported in the trades so far indicates that it will have anything to do with that narrative outside of existing in the same universe. However, given the recent crop of Star Wars media’s propensity to connect almost everything to recognizable characters somehow, it probably isn’t off the table. Disney is aiming to start production this fall with a May 28, 2027 release date.
