It seems every generation must have its own version of The Thomas Crown Affair: The original was released in 1968, with Steve McQueen as a wealthy playboy who committed robberies just because he could get away with it, and Faye Dunaway as the insurance investigator who uncovers his scheme even while falling for him. Then in 1999, Die Hard director John McTiernan helmed a remake with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, in which the latter often looked out of place.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Michael B. Jordan, who’s fresh off the star turn that made Creed a hit for MGM, wants to produce and star in a new version. The studio, which also produced the ’99 iteration, is happy to remain in the Jordan business and is developing a third Thomas Crown as a vehicle for the actor. The film is still in the very early stages, so there’s no writer, director, or female lead, but it seems plausible the film could be in theaters in time for the 50th anniversary of the original.
