Miranda Lambert denies decking Nickelback's Chad Kroeger

Debunking a 2014 rumor, the country star clarified, "I threw moonshine in his face."

Miranda Lambert denies decking Nickelback's Chad Kroeger

To paraphrase Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, they say that a hero can save us, and it might be country singer Miranda Lambert. Though many have disdain for the music of Nickelback, which is probably receiving a Zoomer reappraisal thanks to the horrible march of time, Lambert denies ever punching the group’s lead singer and photograph looker, Kroeger, in the face. At least that’s the story Lambert tells The New York Times’ Popcast (via Vulture), when asked by the podcast’s host Joe Coscarelli, “True or false: You hit Chad Kroeger in the face.” The rumor is the fault of her now-ex-husband Blake Shelton, who, in a 2014 Rolling Stone cover story, said, “People always try to pop off and call her bluff at bars. One of them, I don’t want to say the guy’s name, but he’s the lead singer of a very popular rock band. His initials are C.K.”

To be clear, Lambert denies punching Kroeger in the face. Actually, she continues, “I threw moonshine in his face,” and it “wrecked” his hair. The “Choosin’ Texas” songwriter explains that, yes, “it was a lot” of moonshine, but also “it was a late night and no one was in their best state.” Still, it was done in jest or as some horseplay, and it doesn’t sound like Lambert’s losing any sleep over it. “I don’t know if we’re fine, but I don’t care.” It hasn’t hurt her relationship with Kroeger’s ex-wife, Avril Lavigne, who played Lambert’s CMA Fest, so more than anything, it opened up a bonding moment for female musicians who had it up to here with Kroeger.
