Much like its heroine, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair refuses to die

Considering that Quentin Tarantino says that he originally envisioned the Kill Bill movies as one nearly four-hour epic, it’s surprising that Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair hasn’t gotten more play. (An extended cut featuring several changes played at Cannes in 2004, then was dusted off for a week-long run at Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles in 2011.) But Quentin Tarantino says a lot of things. Who remembers that remake of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! with Britney Spears in it that he was supposedly making a while ago? Exactly.

But apparently The Whole Bloody Affair isn’t quite over yet. Tarantino teased an extended version of Kill Bill Vol. 1’s anime sequence at Comic-Con, where he appeared to pimp his upcoming Django Unchained/ Zorro crossover comic. He told the audience that he originally approached Production I.G. with the script for a 30-minute anime sequence, only to be told that it couldn’t be completed in time for Kill Bill Vol. 1’s scheduled release date. So the sequence was cut, but apparently will be included in all its indulgent glory in Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair:

“[L]ater when I.G. heard we were talking about doing Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair—they still had the script so without even being commissioned, they just did it and paid for it themselves. It’s really terrific. Anyway, The Weinstein Company and myself were talking about actually coming out with it sometime, not before the year is out, but within the next year with limited theatrical engagement as well.”

If this is true—and who knows, givent that this is Quentin Tarantino talking at a Comic-Con panel—this should be enough to hold over fans as they wait for The Hateful Eight, which is also apparently still happening.
