Natalie Portman's big ol' mess of a Western continues to be a big ol' mess
Continuing a behind-the-scenes drama that will assuredly be far more interesting than whatever ends up on the screen—if anything—the Natalie Portman-starring Western Jane Got A Gun has lost yet another star, this time the only recently added Bradley Cooper. It was a mere three weeks ago that Cooper agreed to sub in on the film that increasingly requires some sort of flowchart to keep track of who replaced whom: Cooper was a last-minute exchange for Jude Law, who in turn was swapped in for Michael Fassbender—all of them coming and going under the non-supervision of director Lynne Ramsay, who quit the production by just not showing up to work on her first day. And much like a restaurant wait staff who only takes its job as seriously as its manager, Jane Got A Gun has basically been off getting high in the walk-in and spitting in the salad dressing for kicks ever since.
Anyway, Cooper’s own excuse for begging off is “scheduling conflicts” with David O. Russell’s American Hustle, leaving the production—which still has director Gavin O’Connor and stars Portman, Joel Edgerton, and Noah Emmerich for now—forced to find yet another actor to play the villain who threatens Portman’s farm. Reportedly in consideration are Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tom Hiddleston, all of whom are certainly people you have heard of who star in movies. Apparently not in consideration is just giving up and closing early, because fuck it.
