Netflix to split season 5 of Arrested Development in half
Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz may have gone back and “remixed” the show’s jumbled fourth season into a more digestible structure, but the show’s fifth season—coming on May 29—still won’t be entirely straightforward. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show’s 16-episode fifth season will be split into two halves, with one premiering later this month and the other coming by the end of the year. We won’t need Hurwitz to step in and edit the two halves into one cohesive season, because this is how TV normally works anyway, but it is a slight bummer to know that we’re not really getting 16 new episodes of Arrested Development in a few days.
This isn’t the first time Netflix has chopped up seasons like this, with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s next season also being split in half. Its first six episodes will premiere on May 30, the day after Arrested Development’s new half-season, which is probably how Netflix will manage to reach its insane goal of having 1,000 original shows and movies by the end of the year.
