Trailer for Newlyweds puts Jamie Lee Curtis in a multicam sitcom

Jamie Lee Curtis is no stranger to TV; just in the past couple of years, she’s featured in The Bear, Scarpetta, and Star Trek: Section 31. Still, it’s a bit jarring to see her in the classic multicam sitcom that is Newlyweds. Not only is she in the series—credited as a “very special guest star”—but Curtis also co-created the series and serves as executive producer. And even if she gets fairly prominent positioning in the first trailer, Newlyweds is really about the characters played by Téa Leoni and Tim Daly, as well as a extremely sitcom-y weird little guy played by Bill O’Neil.

Per the official logline, “Newlyweds is a later-in-life love story about Jeanie (Téa Leoni), a free-spirited woman, and James (Tim Daly), a buttoned-up professor, who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship. James only has eyes for Jeanie, but quickly learns that loving her means learning to love her sprawling, eccentric world of friends and family and vice versa.”

Newlyweds will also star Emma Meisel and Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, seemingly as Jeanie’s children, and Al Madrigal. The first episode premieres on NBC on Friday, October 23 at 8:30 pm; it’ll also appear on Peacock.
