No Other Land, directed by Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal, Yuval Abraham, and Rachel Szor, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film at the 2025 Oscars. Made by an Israeli-Palestinian collective, the film bears witness to the destruction in the West Bank and the friendship between Adra, a Palestinian activist, and Abraham, an Israeli journalist. No Other Land won out over Black Box Diaries, Porcelain War, Soundtrack To A Coup d’Etat, and Sugarcane.

Accepting the award, Adra said, “About two months ago I became a father, and my hope to my daughter [is] that she will not have to live the same life I’m living now, always fearing settler violence, home demolitions, and forcible displacement that my community Masafer Yatta is living and facing every day under military occupation.” He concluded his remarks with a call to action: “No Other Land reflects the harsh reality that we have been enduring for decades and still resist as we call on the world to take serious actions to stop the injustice and to stop the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian people.”

Abraham also spoke, emphasizing that “the destruction of Gaza and its people must end” and that the Israeli hostages taken on October 7th must also be freed. “When I look at Basel, I see my brother, but we are unequal. We live in a regime where I am free under civilian law, and Basil is under military law that destroys his life and he cannot control,” he said. “There is a different path, a political solution without ethnic supremacy, with national rights for both of our people. And I have to say as I’m here, the foreign policy in this country is helping to block this path. Why? Can’t you see that we are intertwined? That my people can be truly safe if Basil’s people are truly free and safe. There is another way. It’s not too late for life and the living. There is no other way.”

No Other Land, filmed almost entirely before the October 7th attacks, could not find a distributor in the United States.
