Open City (Ceremony, Lifetime, Ted Leo And The Pharmacists) announces debut album, tour
Though it hasn’t released any music, Open City has been a known quantity in the hardcore scene for nearly two years. The band started a Twitter account way back in April of 2015, and it’s played a few shows in that time, yet it had yet to put out a record. That changes today, as Open City releases the album it’s long been teasing on social media and announces a tour that starts in just a matter of days.
For those that haven’t been following the band’s clandestine activities, Open City is fronted by Rachel Rubino (Bridge And Tunnel, Worriers), backed by Dan Yemin (Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, Paint It Black), Andy Nelson (Ceremony, Paint It Black), and Chris Wilson (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Titus Andronicus). The 10-song record is the kind of punchy, political hardcore one would expect given the band’s pedigree, but it never skews too closely to any one of their other projects. It’s melodic, angry, and, given the current state of the world, downright cathartic. The record is streaming on Bandcamp and can also be purchased on vinyl via the band’s website.
