Originally a pseudo-sequel to his previous film, Armageddon Time, the latest from director James Gray brings scandal to Gowanus. Paper Tiger, Gray’s return to crime movies, is fresh out of the festivals, where it competed for the Palme d’Or and continued Gray’s streak of coming home empty-handed. Still, it’s picking up early Oscar buzz, and one look at the new trailer makes it easy to see why: Three of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars from The Avengers, Top Gun, and Star Wars, all doing their biggest, broadest, and thickest New York accents. They are walking over here, indeed.
