For all of the acclaim that the original Ghostbusters movie gets, a lot of people seem very willing to ignore its one glaring flaw: it isn’t very scary. Seriously, the movie managed to get four masters of horror—Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson—all together, and they made the movie into a comedy? Thankfully, it sounds like Paul Feig is going to remedy that a little bit for his all-female Ghostbusters reboot. In an interview with Empire, the Bridesmaids director said that he and co-writer Katie Dipold are trying to make their new Ghostbusters movie “scarier than the original.” He says it’ll be a “scary comedy” and that they “don’t want to hold back.” Hopefully, this will settle everyone’s concerns about the reboot.
In other Ghostbusters news, Feig says the movie will have to be stuck with a PG-13 rating so “the biggest number of people” can see it and “not be put off by it.” He’d like to make it R-rated, but he doesn’t think Ghostbusters needs “that level of swearing.” Also, he’s waiting until the first draft of the script is done before he starts considering any of the actresses who have expressed interest in joining the project. He wants to hold off and see who will fit the roles the best, which means Rebel Wilson and Gillian Anderson will have to keep waiting by their phones. Is that a “who ya gonna call” joke? It probably should be.
