Peter Berg would like Mitt Romney to stop using his Friday Night Lights slogan, please
Sensing that his campaign could use even more hubris, Mitt Romney recently adopted the campaign slogan, "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose," a phrase that represents Romney's original, very personal vision for the United States in the sense that it's completely borrowed from someone else. In this case, Friday Night Lights creator Peter Berg, who—making an ideological split with the author of the Friday Night Lights book, Buzz Bissinger—has sent a letter to the Romney campaign acknowledging that he's aware of the plagiarism and asking him to knock it off.
"Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series," Berg writes, adding, "The only relevant comparison that I see between your campaign and Friday Night Lights is in the character of Buddy Garrity—who turned his back on American car manufacturers selling imported cars from Japan." (Ignoring, of course, that Paul Ryan is such a little J.D. McCoy, and Romney is so his dad.) Although Berg graciously admits that he's "grateful for your support of our beloved show," he nevertheless insists that Romney "please come up with your own campaign slogan" based on some other TV catchphrase. Suggestions are welcome! "Never Go With A Hippie To A Second Location"! "Homey Don't Play That"! "If It Weren't For You Meddling Kids!" "Welcome To The O.C., Bitch!" "Suit Up!" "You're Fired"! etc.
