Quentin Tarantino rumored to direct update of The Shadow

According to a rather preemptively defensive report from Pajiba, Quentin Tarantino is apparently in talks to helm a new version of 1930s pulp hero The Shadow for 20th Century Fox. There’s a reason for that defensiveness: The Shadow has changed hands several times as of late, beginning as a project earmarked for serial committer Sam Raimi before he passed it over to director David Slade (Twilight: Eclipse), and it’s since been put on the back burner and sent out for a rewrite—so its status is tentative at best, hence any justified skepticism. However, Pajiba insists its source is correct in saying that Tarantino is currently engaged in a “two-way discussion” with the studio about coming on as both co-writer and director.

In the meantime there’s been no confirmation from Tarantino, of course, and the only official project on his radar is the third Kill Bill film, which he’s said he'll deliver sometime around 2014. As always, you should probably take this rumor with a grain of blog salt, and maybe even expect it to be scrapped entirely should the similar The Green Hornet fail at the box office, but in the meantime feel free to use the comments to discuss why 1994’s Alec Baldwin-starring The Shadow is awful—or is it awfully underrated?
