Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Lionel Richie lead this year’s Outside Lands festival

San Francisco may have been overrun with absurdly wealthy tech bros in recent years, but it’s still a nice place to visit. And the Outside Lands Festival, which takes place every August and bills itself as “the world’s only gourmet music festival,” is a good excuse to do so.
The festival takes place every year at Golden Gate Park, which will be taken over by thousands of festival-goers August 5-7. Aside from Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem—who are showing up on a lot of summer festival bills this year—highlights include third headliner Lionel Richie along with eclectic acts like Air, Beach House, Duran Duran, Major Lazer, Grimes, Chance the Rapper, Big Grams (Big Boi and Phantogram), Vince Staples, Sufjan Stevens, Lana Del Rey, Jason Isbell, and Ryan Adams. (There’s a complete listing below, should your idea of “highlights” differ from The A.V. Club’s.)
Muppets house band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem will also be making their “first-ever live festival performance,” which should be, at the very least, interesting. And because this is San Francisco, rather than corn dogs and Miller Lite, the vendors will be serving “chef-driven fare” and fancy craft beer and California wine, thus the “gourmet” bit.
Tickets for the festival have sold out almost instantaneously in recent years—and this year’s Eager Beaver passes are already sold out—so get on it when the three-day and single-day GA and VIP tickets officially go on sale Thursday, April 7, at 10 AM PT.
