Tom Petty was really onto something when he sang, “The waiting is the hardest part,” a sentiment that The Batman star Robert Pattinson no doubt feels down to his bones as production for The Batman Part II continues in London. Speaking with GQ, Pattinson remarked on how the passage of time has challenged his Dark Knightly duties in the hotly anticipated sequel. “I’m definitely feeling my age when fighting a lot. I’m literally like, ‘Goddamn, this is significantly harder than it used to be,’” he said. “But it’s really fun. And I think the movie’s going to be pretty great. It’s got a really, really fun cast, but it’s a marathon.”
Pattinson hit a milestone on May 13, when the actor turned 40, an age, this writer can attest, that makes getting around a bit more of a trial than in our sprightlier days. (The joints start acting up.) Pattinson first stepped into his character’s urban-warfare gear six years ago, when the first The Batman started principal photography in 2020—and let the guy typing this out tell you, 34 is a far more limber age than 40. For those reading this who fear they are beginning to feel time’s inexorable cruelty, we recommend starting your day with water, stretches, push-ups, black coffee, a handful of almonds, and some fruit, with periodic stretches and other exercises worked in throughout your day, when possible. Consider it preventative care for your future—after all, not all of us are paid to play and train as superheroes.
