Steve Carell reinvents himself at college in Rooster trailer

Starting college is a chance to have a new start and try on a different identity; pop culture from The Sex Lives Of College Girls to An Extremely Goofy Movie tells us this. Based on its new trailer, Rooster appears to be the latest entry into the find-yourself-at-school genre, although it looks a lot more Goofy than Leighton Murray (Reneé Rapp’s character from The Sex Lives Of College Girls, of course).

There’s a lot going on in the trailer for Rooster, the latest series from Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. Charly Clive plays a professor and the daughter of Steve Carell’s character, who is a successful author. Her ex, a fellow academic played by Phil Dunster, left her for a grad student. The trailer also introduces us to characters played by Connie Britton, Danielle Deadwyler, Alan Ruck, and John C. McGinley as Carell’s character tries to get his groove back.

2026 is already on track to be a pretty massive year for Lawrence. So far, Shrinking and Ted Lasso have both confirmed their returns for their fourth seasons. Shrinking‘s third season is currently airing, while Ted Lasso‘s fourth will debut this summer. The second season for his other Apple TV show, Bad Monkey, is also in production, though it’s a bit less clear when we might expect to see that. In any case, Rooster will premiere on HBO on March 8. The ten-episode season will continue to debut episodes weekly through May 10.
