Samara’s deadly video goes viral in the Rings trailer
The Paranormal Activity series ended last Halloween, but that doesn’t mean the world is now free of malicious spirits that love hamming it up in front of the camera. This Halloween, Paramount is offering up the long-awaited sequel Rings, which marks the return of Samara, the well-dwelling original gangster of VHS-based horror. Rings, the third entry in the Ring series, has been sitting on the shelf since wrapping production last June, but you can’t keep a dead girl down for long, especially when said girl is a vengeful water ghost.
They say web content never completely disappears, so that would explain the continued viability of a non-narrative gothic art film that kills you seven days after you watch it. In Rings, Matilda Lutz stars as Julia, the latest person to watch the video, which in her defense, she does to rescue her morbidly curious boyfriend. The ominous call comes moments later, and while it’s terrifying, it’s nice to see Samara still cares enough about customer service to call personally. No one wants to find out they’re going to die in a week in an automated message. Vincent D’Onofrio, Johnny Galecki, and Aimee Teegarden round out the cast.
Rings arrives in theaters October 28.
