New Scooby-Doo series finds an old Daphne

The latest iteration of Scooby-Doo has found its first member of Mystery Inc., and it’s one who’s been on the beat a bit already. Variety reports that McKenna Grace will star as Daphne Blake in the new series from Greg Berlanti. This is actually the second time Grace has performed as Daphne; she voiced the young version of Amanda Seyfried’s Daphne in the 2020 animated film Scoob!. The forthcoming series will be the first time Grace’s face is in the picture.

The official logline for the series reads:

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne (Grace) get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

The eight-episode series doesn’t have a release yet, nor does it have a very robust cast or even a confirmed title yet. We do know that Grace has been in high demand lately. This year, she’ll appear in both Scream 7 and The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping, and last year featured in films Regretting You and Five Nights At Freddy’s 2. She also recently had a pretty nice viral moment related to a different movie she did a decade ago, when a red carpet reporter, apparently unaware that Grace was in the movie, asked what she was doing on the set. “Um, I was doing acting,” she replied. And she still is!
