Serious Adam Sandler is getting very serious indeed
With barely enough space to allow a melancholy fart to pass between the last news of Serious Adam Sandler’s return, The Hollywood Reporter has announced another possible dramatic project for the frequent movie appearer-in and occasional actor. Tom McCarthy, director of acclaimed indie dramas The Station Agent and The Visitor, reportedly wants Sandler to star in The Cobbler right before he does his other, non-Adam Sandler-like role in Jason Reitman’s Men, Women & Children. While details are scarce on The Cobbler, it’s believed to be the story of “a shoe man who has the ability to metaphysically step into the lives of the people whose shoes he repairs”—a fantastical, high-concept premise that could easily be played for the sort of broad laughs Sandler typically goes for in movies like Click or Bedtime Stories, but would here be handled very seriously indeed. Unless, of course, THR is getting its information crossed, and The Cobbler will actually find Adam Sandler covering himself in blueberry compote and screaming, “Look at me! I’m Crazy Cobbler Man!”
