Showtime renews The Big C

Showtime has granted a third season to The Big C, its supposedly dark yet strangely whimsical comedy about the lighter side of cancer. The show’s second season, which wraps Sept. 26, has benefitted from the recent addition of guest stars like Cynthia Nixon and Parker Posey, as well as Laura Linney’s character finally just admitting to everyone that she’s sick, rather than dragging them along and making them think she’s just kind of crazy and selfish all of a sudden. Production will start on the third season in early 2012 in time for another summer debut, and while it would be irresponsible to speculate on what might happen, we can only assume that next year, Oliver Platt cures cancer.
