According to Deadline, Showtime is going to keep hanging around on the South Side for another year, with the premium cable network renewing Lean Waithe’s The Chi for a third season. In a statement, Showtime’s president of entertainment Gary Levine said that The Chi “revels in revealing the beat heart of the South Side of Chicago,” and “We, like our viewers, have fallen in love with these characters, and we remain eager to see where Lena and her fellow artists will take them in season three.” That sounds like a nice vote of confidence for the future of the series (past this third season), but we all know that TV executives tend to only love things on a season-to-season basis.
