Among the various films that picked up buzz at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, few left Utah with more rapturous word of mouth than Eva Victor’s Sorry, Baby. The directorial debut from the former Billions cast member—who previously came to internet fame with a series of viral online videos—the film ended up winning both the festival’s Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award, and the critical acclaim of numerous critics. (Including A.V. Club film editor Jacob Oller, who called it “one of the funniest, most charming films about post-traumatic dissociation and recovery I’ve ever seen” in his write-up of Sundance 2025’s best films.)

Now non-festival audiences can get a taste of what Victor’s been up to, as A24 released the first trailer for the film online this morning. That includes glimpses of the movie’s knock-out supporting cast—which includes Naomi Ackie and the ever-wonderful John Carroll Lynch—as well as Victor’s self-directed performance as Agnes. (There is also a very adorable cat.) The highlight, at least from the brief snippets the trailer offers, comes in the form of Agnes’ relationships with those around her, most especially her best friend Lydie (Ackie), which even in snippets captures the shared secret rituals of friendship. It’s the kind of trailer that goes light on plot—”Something pretty bad happened to me” is all we get from Agnes as text, although it’s not hard to suss out at least parts of the story from context clues—but heavy on warm, funny vibes. At the very least, it’s got us excited to see the film in full when it arrives in select theaters on June 27, and then nationwide on July 18.
